We know from a Kaiser study that adverse childhood events have serious health consequences in adulthood. How we process trauma has major, persistent effects. All of these layers are tied together.
We interact with social media, much of which monetizes triggering us for engagement. We pay for it with our health.
Stories have a privileged path because logic loses to emotion, but through story we can help make a reader understand someone else's experience and empathize.
In the end, empathy is the path to avoid destruction, and art is how to get there.
I think the character who is not triggered is one who lives in a state of curiosity- childlike wonder.
